BIOGRAPHY
A legal career shaped by public service, international experience and the courtroom.
Mimi Buescher earned her Juris Doctor from Gonzaga University School of Law in 1980. After law school, she accepted a position teaching law at the University of Malawi in Zomba, Malawi, where she lived for two years and gained first-hand exposure to legal systems across Africa.
Returning to the United States, Mimi represented people facing criminal charges and civil disputes in Salt Lake City. Her work included a juvenile murder case, service as a city attorney handling a large and complex caseload, participation in task forces and an appointment as a Salt Lake City magistrate presiding over municipal matters.
Mimi later joined the Seattle public defender office, where she met Craig Platt and received recognition as the office’s most successful trial lawyer. The two later worked together in Saipan, where Mimi drafted appellate briefs for the Ninth Circuit, including work on a significant murder prosecution.
Mimi was later recruited by a leading civil law firm in Micronesia, where she tried personal injury and other civil matters. She returned to Washington and joined Craig Platt and Associates in 1990. Today, she focuses on family law and civil litigation while continuing to handle District Court matters and collaborate on complex criminal cases.
HER APPROACH
Focused on better outcomes—not conflict for its own sake.
Mimi believes her work should help clients improve their lives. She is compassionate and practical with clients, but forceful in the courtroom when their children, financial future, safety or legal rights require strong advocacy.
Compassionate Guidance
Direct, respectful advice during emotionally difficult family and civil disputes.
Practical Resolution
Negotiation, mediation and collaborative approaches are considered when they can protect the client without unnecessary conflict.
