Every case is different. These results depend on the specific facts, evidence, law and circumstances involved and do not guarantee or predict a similar outcome in another matter.
Twelve Notable Cases
Serious allegations. Difficult evidence. Individualized defense.
The matters below range from murder and sexual-offense allegations to burglary, theft, DUI and drug-delivery charges. Several were cases in which the prosecution believed the client had been caught in the act or possessed unusually strong evidence.
The summaries are condensed from the firm’s existing representative-cases archive. They are presented without client names or docket details and are not intended to describe every fact, argument or ruling involved.
01
Not Guilty — All Counts
Murder in the First Degree
In a month-long trial, the prosecution repeatedly played the defendant’s detailed recorded confessions and presented testimony from internationally known experts.
Case Note
The defense overcame an exceptionally resource-intensive prosecution. The jury returned acquittals on every count and gave Craig Platt a standing ovation in the courtroom.
02
Not Guilty — All Counts
Child Rape, Child Molestation and Furnishing
The client faced five counts in a highly publicized two-week trial that required additional courtroom security.
Case Note
The defense defeated an attempted contempt action tied to cross-examination and raised prosecutorial-misconduct issues while continuing to present the case to the jury.
03
Not Guilty
Theft in the First Degree
The prosecution alleged that more than $25,000 in merchandise had been stolen.
Case Note
A legal argument accepted during trial removed all but roughly $1,000 of the allegations. The jury rejected the remaining charge and acquitted the client.
04
Not Guilty
Rape
Department of Corrections witnesses were permitted to testify, creating a risk that jurors would infer the client had prior convictions.
Case Note
The defense addressed the prejudice created by that testimony. The jury returned a not-guilty verdict after approximately three minutes of deliberation.
05
Not Guilty
Theft
A UPS employee was accused of stealing merchandise from deliveries and selling it for profit.
Case Note
Detailed cross-examination focused on the documentary trail the prosecution relied on. The gaps in that proof created reasonable doubt.
06
Not Guilty
Burglary
The client was arrested with alleged accomplices while carrying a television from a business as police arrived.
Case Note
Although the prosecution characterized the client as caught in the act, the jury acquitted. After trial, another defense attorney requested a transcript of Craig’s closing argument.
07
Not Guilty
Burglary
Police found the client inside a surrounded business with merchandise, burglary tools and blood evidence allegedly connecting him to the scene.
Case Note
The defense obtained an acquittal despite the physical evidence. The result later contributed to a judge referring to Craig as “the magician.”
08
Not Guilty
Child Molestation
The client was accused of an offense involving a family member.
Case Note
Cross-examination established that the key witness could not reliably distinguish between two different uncles, supporting a mistaken-identity defense.
09
Not Guilty
DUI
The client allegedly had a .13 alcohol level, was under the influence of depressants and drove through a red light before striking a municipal bus.
Case Note
The defense emphasized that police had not provided meaningful access to counsel after arrest. The jury acquitted despite substantial evidence presented by the prosecution.
10
Not Guilty
Burglary
A business owner allegedly caught the client during a break-in. The client escaped but was later identified by the witness.
Case Note
The defense presented alternative theories after identifying weaknesses in the original alibi evidence. The judge later praised the closing argument’s handling of those theories.
11
Not Guilty
Child Molestation
The prosecution’s principal witness testified that she had walked in while the alleged offense was occurring.
Case Note
Through cross-examination, the witness acknowledged uncertainty about what she had actually observed, creating reasonable doubt for the jury.
12
Not Guilty of Delivery
Delivery of Marijuana
The case was described locally as the county’s largest drug bust. The client was arrested at the delivery location in the vehicle used to transport pounds of marijuana.
Case Note
The defense raised evidence-disclosure and cross-examination issues. The court ultimately gave the jury a special corrective instruction drafted by Craig Platt.
Beyond These Twelve Cases
Trial verdicts are only one measure of effective defense work.
The current archive also describes cases dismissed because of procedural violations and serious charges resolved through negotiated outcomes. A successful strategy may involve trial, motions, dismissal, charge reduction or another resolution that serves the client’s goals.
01
Dismissals Based on Procedure
The firm’s archive includes a first-degree robbery with a firearm and a child-molestation case dismissed based on speedy-trial violations.
02
Negotiated Reductions
The archive also describes possible death-penalty murder matters reduced to manslaughter and serious felony allegations resolved as lower-level offenses.
